A systematic review of professional identity in sport psychology

The establishment of a strong professional identity (PI) among sport psychology practitioners (SPPs) has the potential to increase likelihood individual ethical working, awareness roles, and ultimately, support more effective lasting career. Nevertheless, there is currently no global consensus regarding definition identity, which imperative for ongoing advances in formation, training practice. In this study, we conducted systematic review literature with aim developing an understanding existing knowledge. Following PRISMA guidelines, initially identified 4,393 research records, screened assessed eligibility reducing sample articles fitting our inclusion criteria 25 manuscripts. We analyzed these by engaging inductive thematic analysis aimed at identifying patterns within data forming organized, rich, detailed description data. This led development four main themes: Formation Professional Identity; Embodying Influences on Identity, Challenges Identity. These are discussed terms their implications bodies educational programs contribution future research.
